The New Girl’s name is Piggy.
Piggy is an English Bull Terrier. To be clear, her name does not reflect any “piggish” characteristics but it does fit her persona and slight resemblance to the farm animal, nicely. (We do know a couple of other dogs that can be described as “piggish” with respect to eating habits. The New Girl, “Piggy” is not like that at all.)
English Bull Terriers are a popular breed with the Madison Avenue set as a spokes-dog, mascot, and corporate goodwill ambassador for canine customers.
Spuds Mackenzie is probably the most famous English Bull Terrier and there is also the Target mascot.
An English Bull Terrier also posed for the cover of Rick Springfield’s 1981 album, “Working Class Dog”, which included the hit song “Jessie’s Girl.”
In some sort of inexplicable and meaningless synchronicity that we need to “highlight” nevertheless, we titled this post “Meet The New Girl”, after the show “The New Girl”, which starred Zooey Deschanel as “Jess”, as in “Jessie’s Girl” from the Rick Springfield album.
